Paul and The Meanie

First up on The Brewed Awakening Collabs & Creatives Space is Paul and The Meanie.

The precocious trio hailing from Armagh have had an ability from day one to produce a sound that massively extends beyond their age, experience and production methods.

First melding minds in the Armagh college, the stars seemed to align as the three began writing original pieces instantaneously that reflected the lived experiences of three modern-day teenagers. The boys describe their sound as two-fold; a summer-sipping rose tinted indie vibe, and a range of “heavy, funky grooves”.

Produced in lead vocalist Daragh’s bedroom, the aptly named Yellow Bedroom Demo explores the more coming-of-age indie side to the trio’s toolbox. More recently, the Red Girl EP delves into grungier, more mature themes as the title alludes to.

From heartbreak to infidelity, expect the full spectrum of youthful exploration to be conveyed. The themes are met and raised by the individual quality of the musicians. The technical prowess of each member is complemented by an astute vocal range to produce a sound that three teenagers almost have no right to produce.

The true value of Paul and The Meanie is unveiled their live shows. The confidence they exude and ability to fill a stage produces a vibe that could transcend to a stadium filler, yet you feel the day-one fans would pine for the days of formation; the low-light, grungy, sweaty intimacy.

Currently at University, the three have taken some time to explore other projects, adding further strings (or drumsticks) to their bows. These projects will no doubt make an appearance on BA in future.
